JOB INTERVIEWS.

When going for a job interview there are a few things you should do before turning up for the interview.

The two key elements to a successful interview is preparation and enthusiasm.

1) Preperation:

Make sure you know exactly where the location of the interview is, you don't want to be late, give yourself an extra 15mins to get there just incase something happens. Its better to be early.
As part of your preperation, besides the location, what products does it sell, whats its growth record and potential, check it out on the internet.

Review your CV so that you can tie aspects of your past experience history to the requirements of the job you are applying for.
Refresh your memory on the facts and figures relating to your present or past employer/s. If presented with an application form, fill it out neatly and completely.
On interview day make sure your dress appearance is tidy.

2) The Interview

Greet the interviewer by their surname, shake hands firmly, then wait to be asked to be seated. During the interview sit upright and look the prospective employer in the eye while you are talking, listen carefully and do not interup the interviewer.
Among factors that can lead to a poor impression are; a limp or fishy handshake; lack of eye contact; untidy appearance; lack of planning for career with no purpose or goals; overly aggressive or know-it-all attitude; lack of tact or courtesy; over-emphasis on money and lack of confidence, offensive language and Enthusiasm.

Avoid "yes" and "no" answers. Explain whenever possible, referring to those things about yourself which are relative to the position.
Be armed with intellegent questions. Questions you might ask could be; why is the position available; what sort of training and health and safety programmes are there in place and what are the companies growth plans.

When the interview has come to an end thank the interviewer for his/her time and consideration of you while shaking their hand and make sure you have eye contact. Remember if you have answered the two most important questions; why you are interested in the job/company and what you can offer, you have done your best.

I DONT KNOW WHAT JOB I WANT TO DO?

You "I want a job"

Mainland "what type of job are you wanting to do"

You "I'm not sure"

This is a conversation we have everyday with potential candidates. The best answer to this is ask yourself "what do I like doing most of all; what are my interests and hobbies that I love doing".

Now once you know that answer ask yourself "now what type of job can i get doing those things".

There is your answer. If you do not have the skills as yet, GO AND GET THEM, retrain yourself, there are polytechs, universites and trade institutes you can ring and see if they have courses in what you are interested in.

You need to have some sort of skill before anyone is going to hire you, and remember if you love doing it, it will be easy to learn more about the things your interested in.
